Fire Suppression Systems

As one of the three elements of the ‘fire triangle’, oxygen (along with fuel and heat) is needed for any fire to flourish. Gas suppression systems tackle a fire by automatically filling a room with an inert gas (usually carbon dioxide), reducing the oxygen present to less than 15%, the level below which combustion is unable to happen.

That makes them safe to use in many environments, but a gaseous fire suppression system is particularly useful in server rooms, computer suites and other locations containing a lot of electrical equipment. That’s because it leaves no residue and won’t damage electrical equipment.

Scutum North is a leading local supplier and installer of top-quality gas fire protection solutions across North England, including the areas in and around Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester.

Fire Suppression Systems FAQs

In what areas does Scutum North provide fire suppression systems?

Our state-of-the-art fire suppression systems are available to commercial customers across the north of England – that covers just about everywhere from Birmingham up to the Scottish border. If you’re not sure whether that includes where you are, just give us a call and we’ll be happy to help in any way we can.

Can Scutum North provide free quotes for fire suppression systems?

We can. And we always aim to beat any similar quote, so we’re confident that you’ll find that we represent exceptional value as well as providing reliable expertise.

How does a fire suppression system work?

A fire suppression system works by filling a sealed room with a gas – usually that will be carbon dioxide – that can safely extinguish a fire in a location where there is valuable electrical equipment, such as a server room. We can also carry out room integrity testing to check that the space in which a fire suppression system has been installed is secure enough for it to work effectively.

What is the difference between a fire suppression system and a sprinkler system?

A fire suppression system uses inert gas to kill a fire, whereas a sprinkler system uses water. That makes the fire suppression system the better choice for fires involving valuable electrical equipment.
